Photo: Matcha and Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies
What are crinkle cookies? They are cookies that are cracked and make a crinkle. The “crinkle” in this recipe’s name comes from their distinctive cracked figured on top. The look is by the transformation from sugar-coated dough balls into textured cracked cookies. I’ve been obsessed with crinkle cookies based on the photos on social media. Because they look easy to make, I decided to take on the challenge by making these cookies from scratch.
I made matcha and red velvet crinkle cookies! I basically got the same ingredients to make both cookies except on the matcha one, I used matcha powder and the red velvet, I used red food coloring to give it that red color. I forgot to add coco powder to make the red velvet flavor so I would recommend adding that to the red velvet batter. I’m going to give you the full recipe. Note that you need to divide the batter to get two different flavors! Here’s the recipe!
. 2 cups of all-purpose flour shifted (1 cup in each bowl)
. 1 cup of granulated sugar (1/2 in each bowl)
. 2 full eggs (1 in each bowl)
. 1/2 cups room temperature butter (1/4 cups in each bowl)
. 1/2 tsp almond extract (1/4 tsp in each bowl)
. 1/2 tsp salt (1/4 tsp in each bowl)
. 1/2 Tbsp matcha powder in one bowl
. 3-4 drops of red food coloring in other bowl
. Confection Sugar
*I also did 2 egg whites and then used a paddle attachment to get stiff peaks and then I splitter the egg white batter to the two bowls. I am not sure if that made a true difference.
1. Preheat your oven to 300F degrees. Place parchment paper on the pan.
2. Add in the flour (shifted), sugar, and matcha powder to the bowl. Do the same to the other bowl except don’t add in the matcha powder. Whisk ingredients until fully incorporated
3. Optional* Use the paddle attachment and mix in the egg whites in the bowl until you have stiff peaks!
4. Split the egg white mixture into the bowls. Add in the butter, almond extract, and eggs into both of the bowls. You then can add the red food coloring into the bowl that has no matcha powder.
5. Have a bowl of sugar in one bowl and another bowl of confection sugar ready. You are then going to take either one of the cookie doughs you made and roll the cookies into little balls (I recommend using and ice cream scooper) and judging that way. Once you have a ball, cover the cookie dough in the sugar first and then cover the cookie dough into the confection sugar.
6. Once all of the cookies are rolled up and ready, put them into the oven for 25 mins.
