This ain’t your typical downtown Portland Hotel! The Inn @ Northup Station is truly the most retro hotel and quirkiest hotel I’ve stayed in Portland. I already talked about Portland in general but why not lets dive into this “flashback” theme hotel that has incredible history and crafty original artwork.

An “Inn” type of hotel is a family-owned hotel that is usually much smaller than standard or chain hotels. These types of hotels tend to be more cozy and homey to guests and that’s what I experienced. Originally built in the 1970s, this building was discovered by Portland architect, Steve Roulton. Roulton transformed and developed this building into a quirky art-deco hotel. From the exterior, it reflects the spirit of Northwest Portland. The energy, spirit, and enthusiasm of the neighborhood reflected how the exterior should be crafted. The interior is small, but very vibrant with the combination of colors and artistry. Each artwork you see at the hotel were made by Portland local artists that are original. The Inn @ Northup Station has been known as a unique boutique hotel with a quirky personality that reflects Portland.

The amenities that are offered at this hotel include an on-site parking pass (about a 20 mins drive to the hotel if you take a car), continental breakfast, Portland Streetcar tickets, and Hi-speed Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, there are no other dining options at the hotel besides from the continental breakfast, but there are many shops and dining options that are around the hotel that are stunning. Some of these restaurants and businesses that the hotel recommends and are nearby are Top Burmese, Afuri Ramen and Dumplings, Salt and Straw, and many others!

I got to stay in a standard room. When you first walk in, they definitely keep the same retro hip vibe in all of the guest rooms, including the furniture too. One of the amenities I loved the most was the kitchen and every room comes with it. It even features most of the kitchen equipment, supplies, and utensils that are needed to cook a delicious meal in your room. I didn’t cook anything unfortunately however, I was able to put my food in the bowl and heat it in the microwave. Guests would have to ask for dish soap and sponge if they want to hand wash their dishes. Otherwise, there’s always the dishwasher that is available! The bathroom carried the same retro theme with the red paint, the tile in the shower, and a silver sink. Everything was functional, clean, and ready to go! The view of the outside was nice, and each room features a balcony to see a view of the trees. The hotel location was quiet overall, guests can experience some noise when cars are driving by or when the MAX makes its way to pick and drop off passengers. Overall, the room was clean, spacious, cozy, quirky, and comfortable for me to stay in. It definitely felt like home!

The Inn at North up was by far, the most art deco, retro, original, and one of the safest hotels in Portland. I am beyond impressed by the quality, of the hotel, and the professionalism by the staff. Wonderful hotel, that I will recommend to any tourists visiting Portland!
