Rasa is a modern contemporary restaurant located in Burlingame, CA. Rasa first opened its doors in November of 2014 after opening Saffron in 2003 in San Carlos, CA. Their goal was to “bring a new kind of dining experience to the Peninsula while allowing our culinary prowess to shine while celebrating India’s rich culinary traditions” (Rasa: Press). The owner Ajay Waila took his passion for Indian food and his experience in hospitality to change perspectives of Indians food and modernize it. The inspiration of creating the menu came from the regions from Kerala to Hyderabad and beyond. Since then, in 2016, Rasa was awarded a Michelin Star for this restaurant and they have been consistently getting it since then.
I was so excited when I heard about their accomplishments that I had to try the food for myself! Rasa is located in downtown Burlingame, CA on Park Rd. When I first walked in, everything was beautiful, modern, and clean. The room was a bit dark but it was still nice. The servers were able to sit me right away, and they were also patient that I had to look at the menu to see what was good. I had to order the Bombay Sliders, Beets and berries salad, Indian railway peppers, Seasonal Uthappam (squash), Genovese basil dosa and White corn kofta curry. I can’t explain like how bomb the food is and how pretty each dish was! It was beautiful!

My favorite dish was pretty much the beet salad! Like woah that was the best salad I EVER had in my entire life! That salad is like the ultimate must have at this restaurant! I was so amazed on how presentation wise, it looked fancy and when you taste it, it tasted even better! There was a subtle sweetness in the berry sauce that was so yummy that I wanted more of it. The textures were on point because you have some crunchiness that balanced the softness of the salad. I believe this was my favorite salad ever that I had. I also tried their curry as well. It was so luscious, silky, and soft that the curry was so smooth. I’ll never forget that curry that I had because that was some delicious curry! You can see that any dish you get at this restaurant will have amazing flavors that your mouth would water to. All of the spices and seasonings blew me away and the food is like, you are being transported to India. Waila’s menu takes you to an Indian food journey but in a more modern contemporary way. My god I want to come back and try more dishes because this really blew me away! I’ll never forget this experience I had! Thank you for the hospitality and for a great service!
